Founded in 1881, The Cincinnati Art Museum is one of the country’s oldest visual arts institutions.
Museum Facility Master Plan – Public Forums
- Friday, Oct. 28, 5 to 7 p.m.
- Sunday, Oct. 30, 3 to 5 p.m.
- Six stations throughout the Museum and grounds will present ideas and options for the public’s feedback
- Visit the six stations through a self-guided tour using a map provided at registration table; visiting all six stations should take approximately 75 minutes total
- Museum staff and feedback forms will be present at each station for public’s comments and ideas
- Self-guided tour course will require a good deal of walking with limited access at some stations for wheelchairs and strollers; in case of inclement weather, all stations will be inside
Earlier this year, the Cincinnati Art Museum began the development of a new master plan for its facility and site. Over the last several months, Museum staff and board have assessed the state of the facility (which is composed of seven different buildings ranging in date from 1886 to 1963), prioritized programmatic needs and developed several options for how the Museum can be expanded and improved. This process has been informed by a set of design principles and, more importantly, by the recognition that whatever the Museum does must serve not only to strengthen the institution but also to enhance its value to the community.
Thus, it is important to engage the Museum’s many different constituencies in this process, both to acquaint them with the needs of the Museum and to help to make the right choices on behalf of the community. The Museum invites the public to forums on the above dates to learn more about the facilities master plan process and respond with their feedback to the options developed thus far.
